You may remember the connections game Nomel and I have been playing for a few weeks. If not it's here.

The connections so far for snotty tissue to SLR camera have been:

A snotty tissue can lay on the pavement

Alcohol can also be used to kill bacteria

So this week has been a busy one and I'm also ill so that's why I've not posted anything. I'm crawling out from under the duvet to say happy birthday to my Mum. This drawing is inspired by her amazing ability to iron and watch TV at the same time. I don't know anyone who can multi task as well as her.

Happy birthday and I hope you enjoy the picture. As for the connections game, I'll be posting my entry tomorrow so I'll see you then.

Fact Thursday - Huuuge Volcanoes

Today's fact was brought to my attention by the fantastic book A Short History Of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. One section is devoted to the terrifying fact that Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, USA, is actually sitting on top of a very active supervolcano that is overdue for a right good blow off.

Even more terrifying is that, in some parts of the park, the magma is only 5 miles below where you stand. 5 miles might seem a long way when you have to run it or push a car along it; but in relation to magma at a temperature of between 700-1300 degrees Celsius, it's a scarily short distance.

The size of the caldera (a depression in the earth caused by the collapse of land after a volcanic eruption) at Yellowstone National Park is 1500 square miles. Mount St. Helens is only 2 square miles. That makes Yellowstone one seriously huuuge volcano.

I bet you didn't know that socks can be extremely judgemental did you? Well they can. They're also very bitchy and form tight social cliques. If you don't believe me you're kidding yourself.

How many times have you lost socks in the washing machine? That's because they've been shunned to death. The very fabric of their existence ripped to shreds by crushing, constant, never ending rejection. And you think you've got problems?

You've waited all week to find out where I was those 3 weeks I stopped posting. I've made you look at all the places I haven't been so now I can finally tell you where I was.

I was in hell. Let me clarify that. I was in idea hell. I could not think of a single funny idea to post here. This is how I spent my time.

Ok, so perhaps I didn't spend all my time doing that. Here's a more comprehensive break down of how I spent my time.

It wasn't all doom and gloom. I did learn a few things:

I can walk quite well even when dizzy.
There are tons of Becky Gabriels out there.
Re-watching music videos by The Lonely Island never gets old.
Spinning too much makes you sick.
My twitter photo is number 2 on the Google images search page.
The Buttery Biscuit Base (Masterchef) mash up song is awesome.
Talking dogs and cats falling over are freaking hilarious even after the 10th watch.
The dog gets scared when I spin around in the swivel chair.
You shouldn't try to grind on a skateboard if you value your crotch.

Told you it wasn't that exciting.

Relationship week (3 weeks late!)

Perhaps you're wondering where I've been. Or maybe you don't really care. Either way I'll be explaining what went wrong next week with drawings, diagrams and pie charts.

For now I'm going to post a drawing I did a few weeks ago that features Lion and Lemon. In case you were wondering, Lion is based on my boyfriend and Lemon is based on me. The reason we're a lion and a lemon comes from the Kevin Smith film Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. It's the Good Will Hunting 2 scene where Ben Affleck and Matt Damon yell "lion face, lemon face" at each other. If you've seen it it'll all make sense, if not I recommend you watch it because it's a funny film.

We adopted it as a catch phrase somehow and it's just stuck. He's very lion like in real life thanks to his lazy ass scratching and big fury mane. I'm more lemon like in that I grow bigger year round and am so very bitter.

What makes this comic and the one before it (found here) even better is that it's all true. These events have happened. I'm thinking of making them regulars but we'll see how many funny things happen to me and Mark over the next few weeks.

Fact Tursday / War Horse Week #4

I'm continuing with War Horse week but still honouring Fact Thursday by mixing the two together. That's right; it's a mash up.

Fact: It completely sucks to be a sea turtle, especially a female one.

Every two to four years a female sea turtle swims miles back to the beach where she hatched and starts an arduous climb up the beach whilst her body weight crushes her organs. When she gets to the right spot she has to dig a hole to lay her eggs in. This happens at night so she's on a tight schedule.

Because thousands of sea turtles do this at the same time, lots become buried by the sand kicked up by other sea turtles and suffocate. Assuming the turtle avoids being buried alive she then has to get back to the sea before the sun comes up and cooks her alive. Some go the wrong way and become stranded on rocks baking in the boiling hot sun. If she does make it back to the sea she then has to swim miles back to her home.

But it's worth it for all the ickle babies you might say. Well, out of all those thousands of eggs laid only 0.01% will survive thanks to predators gorging on them before they can even make it down the sodding beach. The ones that do make it then face all the lovely sea predators. And that's why it sucks to be a sea turtle.

Perhaps they should enlist.

War Horse Week #1

I'm assuming you've heard of the film War Horse which I have not, and will not, ever see because it looks like a proper tearjerker. If not, it seems to be a film about a horse having a coming of age adventure in the middle of World War One, in an attempt to avoid being called up.

I'm guessing the horse busks its way around Europe after breaking off the forbidden love affair it's having with the stable boy. At one point I'm fairly sure it gets drunk and throws itself into a barbed wire fence but the trailer goes too fast to be sure. It probably ends with the horse returning to tell his father he loves the stable boy and doesn't need his permission or money because love conquers all. They get married and at the end the father joins the rest of the wedding guests on the dance floor as they smooch to "Time Of My Life"

Obviously I could be wrong about this because I've only seen the trailer.

Joking aside, what about the animals that didn't make it to the battlefield? Well I'm here to give them their moment of glory this week.

Fact Friday - Coconuts

Here it is. This week's belated fact:

The water in coconuts can be used as a substitute for blood plasma in emergencies. This means that coconuts can be used to intravenously rehydrate a person under extreme circumstances. It's the coconut water, not the milk (which is made from grated coconut meat), that's used. Coconut water has ideal pH levels and it's usually sterile.

Apparently when IV supplies ran low, soldiers from both sides in the Vietnam War would gather coconuts when expecting a big battle.

So there you have it. Assuming you are in an area with coconuts, have the equipment to intravenously administer the coconut water and are not in the least bit squeamish about sticking a needle into someone's vein, then your companions won't perish should they be unable to drink.

Just pray you don't end up on this island or there really is no hope for you. That's right; it's another B-Movie poster.

Have you ever one of those moments when you've received a gift and it was so rubbish you had to take yourself off and have a good laugh about it? Usually these gifts come from great aunts or other family members you only see twice a year.
