On with the fact: The oldest living tree is 4842 years old and is a Great Basin Bristlecone Pine that grows in the White Mountains in California. It's named the Methuselah Tree after a biblical figure of the same name who supposedly lived for over 900 years. If you want to know more click here.
Can you imagine how grumpy that tree is now? 4842 years of watching the human race plough everything into the ground in order to build fast food chains and pound shops. 4842 years of war, famine, and z-list celebrities. 4842 years surrounded by younger trees all playing the music on their mobile phones out-loud, even though the sound quality is appalling and every song played on it sounds the same.
Errr yeah, anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, the old tree. This is my favourite drawing of all time and so it should be, it took four hours to draw. Worth it? You decide.

It's well worth it, Becky. That's one old tree!
ReplyDeleteTotally worth it. I bet that tree has seen some things. Like, some very disturbing things. How that tree is still holding it together is beyond me.
ReplyDelete@Tim: Thanks Tim. Imagine how many kids it has. Christmas must cost a fortune! :)
ReplyDelete@ABFTS: Thanks. Good job someone tested its age before it was ploughed and wood chipped into oblivion. I'd put my money on there being an even older tree in the rainforest somewhere.
In the (edited) words of Neil Young: "Old tree look at my life, I'm a lot like you were."
ReplyDeleteI mean, if I were a 4000 year old spruce! Fun stuff, Becky!
Thanks Mark. A cartoonist and a lyricist, is there no end to your talent?
ReplyDeleteBrilliant Drawing!
ReplyDeleteCheers Brizzo. I knew you'd like that drawing.
